CERN Micro Club, RightsTech Women and HES-SO HEPIA are organizing a free educational event in Geneva, “Robotics and programming for girls” on October 6th, 2018. We are looking for volunteer coaches who speak both English and French and are willing to transmit basic notions of programming to girls aged between 10 and 18-year-old.

The idea is to familiarize girls with basic programming concepts and human-machine interactions through the use of the educational robots “Poppy Ergo Jr” and the programmable touchscreen “hepiaLight”. Programming an object (such as a robot or a touchscreen) is interesting as it gives immediate physical feedback and allows to learn quickly. We believe that early exposure and familiarity in a dedicated environment is key to demystifying technology. During the workshop, participants will also learn about the human right to education, including science education, in a child-friendly format.

Becoming a coach requires no pre-requisite or background in programming. Only a one-hour volunteer training session in advance of the workshop is required to learn how to handle the equipment, and you can then keep learning and mastering it through an online simulator.

To apply, please send an expression of interest and CV to volunteers@rightstech.org, by 30 August 2018. Volunteers must be aged 18 or older, already present in Geneva, with a valid residence permit and health insurance.

The workshop is hosted by our official partner, HES-SO HEPIA (Rue de la Prairie 4, Genève).

We look forward to hearing from you!
